Skin, Font by Jamie Reid
‘Skin’ is a headline font designed by Jamie Andrew Reid to mark the launch of the landmark new publication Skinhead: An Archive
Reid’s font is a re-drawn headline font from a Penthouse article on skinhead culture in the 1980s. The original article documented extremism within the subculture, and this was reflected in the bold, aggressive letterforms and sharpened elements.
As well as the upper case alphabet and digits, Reid has drawn all common punctuation glyphs, as well as a number of hidden treasures in the form of icons from the book. While the font reflects the power and aggression of the subculture, it was vital that it didn’t allude to any specific politics or nationality as the skinhead style transcends those definitions.
The font is available exclusively from the Ditto shop, and comes with a license for its use in any commercial context.
